Sådan er de unge kvinder og børn som Somaly Mam Foundation frigør fra en tilværelse som handlede, men beskriver også den eksklusive Somaly Mam sten som MALEEN NEEL har designet til sine håndlavede ringe.
Stenen består af Cracked Crystal med en gennemgående 14 karat massiv guldstang. For hver solgt sten sendes $25 til The Somaly Mam Foundation, der bekæmper trafficking og udnyttelse af kvinder og børn.
Somaly Mam’s skæbne er utrolig. Hun kender ikke sin præcise alder og blev som en lille pige i Cambodja efterladt af sine forældre, der blev fordrevet af Pol Pot. Hun boede i skoven indtil hun blev fundet af en ældre mand der misbrugte hende i flere år, for derefter at videresælge hende til prostitution som ca. 14-årig. Efter mange år som prostitueret fik en hjælpearbejder hende ud af landet og til Frankrig, hvor hun blev gift.
Resten af sit liv har hun viet til at hjælpe børn og kvinder, der er ofre for trafficking, og hun har oprettet Somaly Mam Foundation i New York.
I 2006 fik hun tildelt titlen ”CNN Hero” og i 2009 var hun blandt TIME Magazine’s 100 mest indflydelsesrige personer i verden. Dertil er kommet en række andre priser, samt opmærksomhed og støtte fra en række kendisser som Angelina Jolie, Susan Sarrandon m.fl.
MALEEN NEEL har længe forhandlet med Somaly Mam fonden for at finde en måde at støtte det gode arbejde på. Resultatet er blevet en unik krystal-sten med en 14 karat guldstav isat. Stenen passer i én af de to sølvringe Alley eller Boulevard, hvor man kan skifte sten efter humør, stil og årstid, og giver et helt særligt eksklusivt udtryk, samtidig med at den gode sag støttes med ca kr. 140,- pr solgt sten.

The Somaly Mam Foundation is a nonprofit charity committed to ending modern day slavery in North America and around the world.
Human trafficking, a multi-billion dollar industry, is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world. With over two million women and children sold into sexual slavery each year, it is a global crisis that must be stopped.
